Anosognosia

Anosognosia is a symptom often experienced by someone with schizophrenia who can not recognise that they have a mental illness.


This is something which I believe is so important for carers to be informed about at the beginning of their child's experience of psychosis and I am shocked by the lack of information given to carers on this subject.


I found this article online from NAMI really helpful in understanding what lack of insight really is and I wish it had been explained to me sooner. It helped me to gain an understanding of why my daughter refused to engage with mental health teams or take medication.
